Firstly, sorry its late. I know so many of you wait each week in anticipation for our cricket write up….
Last Saturday, our first team travelled to Sudbrook to play an Undy and Magor team who are rooted to the bottom of Division 5 table. We started strongly, bowling first, restricting the hosts to 78 all out. Both opening bowlers were in fine fettle. Jordan James the pick of them with 4/29 off his 9 overs, Greg Deane 2/27 off his 9 and Edward Smart blowing away the lower order with 3/15 off 4 overs. A short fielding effort with Undy and Magor only lasting 25 overs.
In reply, Dai Owen got a very quick fire 30 and then Simon Pember (24no) along with Jonny Hughes (23no) saw us over the line by 8 wickets in only 14 overs.
We remain unbeaten and picked up 19 points which extends our lead to 11 points at the top of the table with another big game coming tomorrow as we welcome 2nd place Sully Spartans to the Western Field.
The seconds hoped to keep up their good form as the welcomes Lisvane to the Western Field.
The visitors made first use of the track. With some returning ‘older’ faces, we restricted Lisvane to 155 all out. Carl Blacker took 4/43 off his 8 over, Tony Cannon 2/16 off his 8 and Nicky Phillips 2/15 off 3.
We lost early wickets early on and LIsvane were putting the pressure on but then up stepped Rhys ‘Trigger’ Phillips and Steven ‘Lanky’ Jeffrey to steer the home team across the finish line. Trigger was out just before the winning line for a classy 56 whilst Lanky was to be unbeaten on 46.
Another win for our 2s which puts us into 2nd place in Division 12. Tomorrow sees the seconds travel down the A470 to Whitchurch Heath.
Sunday saw the return of our successful Sunday friendly side, know more commonly as the ‘Ravens’. Unfortunately on this occasions, we come up against a strong Lisvane team who beat us by around 100 runs. Nice to see youngsters Harry and Jac Hughes playing senior cricket once more with good performances with bat all ball.
